German Shepherds

German Shepherds were created by Max von Stephanitz in Germany in 1899. He bought a Thuringian which he used as the prototype of the German Shepherd. By carefully cross breeding other herding dogs from the central and southern parts of Germany to make a German Shepherd. Hektor Linksrhein was the name of the dog that he used for the prototype. German Shepherds were introduced in the United States of America in the 1900s. After WW1, many American soldiers took home German Shepherds. The public took a liking to the German Shepherd. The German Shepherd has been used for over one hundred years. The German Shepherd has been used as a military dog since 1914.The Nazi used German Shepherd as guard dogs and bomb dogs, also at the Nazi concentration camp also called the Hollow Cost. Adolf Hitler had a German Shepherd named "Prinz" in 1921. After WW2, the United States of America made a beautiful version of the German Shepherd which is the German Shepherd we see today. We use the German Shepherds to guard homes and as loyal companions.
